The neighbourhood

Some places and events in the neighbourhood of Ebisu’s Kyoto International Guesthouse.

Munetada Shrine

Munetada Jinja has great autumn leaves.

Kurodani Temple

This is the gate of Kurodani Temple. There is a large temple, a lot of smaller temples, a big graveyard, and a pond. Can you find the afro Buddha statue here?

Jizo-san

Just down the stairs from the house, you will find these Jizo statues. When you visit Kyoto, you will see a lot more Jizo statues around the city.

Setsubun at Yoshida Shrine

Setsubun is celebrated at Yoshida Shrine, very close to Ebisu’s Kyoto International Guesthouse, on February 2nd and 3rd every year. Not to be missed.

Heian Shrine

In front of the Heian Shrine stands this enormous torii (gate). Heian Shrine is famous for the garden and celebrations such as 7-5-3 (a festival celebrating children achieving those age milestones), New Year, and Coming of Age Day.

Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art

Just next to Heian Shrine’s Torii gate and opposite the National Museum of Modern Art, the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art is well worth a visit.

Wonderful food

There are so many wonderful coffee shops and restaurants within easy walking distance of Ebisu’s Kyoto International Guesthouse, including the amazing Kyoto Nama Chocolat Organic Tea House.
